50 people and 100 printers to make 400 face shields a day? I guess every bit helps but that's not solution.

We have to support our small, volunteer businesses. Local is beautiful!

As I said, you can't DPA your way out of neoliberalism. The rot runs too deep and putting the economy on a new footing requires nothing less than a socialist revolution.

We don't need to DPA our way out of neoliberalism right now. Just a pandemic.

Same difference, that was my whole point. Uneven and combined neoliberalism is the reason you can't DPA your way out of the pandemic. The impotence in the face of the pandemic is a symptom of a deeper structural problem.

A deeper structural problem that has nothing to do with essential medical products being manufactured in one place, in quantities not sufficient to safeguard the public health.

China's capacity to satisfy the world market is greater than France's capacity to satisfy its domestic market. The fact that this is the case is a consequence of the 40 years of neoliberalism (i.e. capitalism). Again, France and others can still chip in but it's gonna be peanuts

Neoliberalism - ie the process through which we ensured China would be the only country with substantial industrial capacity. Why do you think we did that? Do we just love the Chinese or is there some structural element? Maybe it's the slave labor they use to make things cheaply

As I was saying, to reestablish industrial capacity, even the bare minimum, you have to unseat the class that destroyed it. That's my view. Others are holding out for some kind of class-collaborationist way out of this swamp. Neither of these can come soon enough.

Is the CCP part of that class?

So wouldn't it make sense to build market-independent structures to compete with them? Obviously Trump *isn't* going to do that, but he could. Just like congress isn't going to pass Medicare for All, but could.
