France just ordered like a billion face masks from China. That's a smart move. This mercantilist posturing really makes me mad cause it's literally profit>need in a pandemic. It's not an either or. You can import from China and you can produce your own.
Has France funded the creation of factories to make PPE locally as well? Or, like the US, are they hoping China will eventually have enough for the rest of the class?

I doubt it. This is war and market economies whose industries have been gutted for decades aren't going to make a turnaround any time soon. China capacity to produce medical equipment is essentially infinite right now, especially given the excess capacity due to the downturn.
