They had to crowdsource it because 3D printed goods are basically unprofitable by definition and governments aren't willing to pay to undercut Chinese manufacturing. Sad!

3d printing sucks ass tbh. i could see its use in moderately complex, proprietary parts of which few are needed, e.g. like a handful of 3d printed parts = refurbished/repaired respirator or sth, but for masks lol no
