Mandatory testing of everyone now or we are fucked. South Korea shows this will work. It's great we're all being such good little soldiers with the social distancing but it's not going to be enough on its own.

We need to be able to track new infections if we want to leave our houses any time in the next year.

But if we get a negative result then leave the house and become infected, doesn't that mean that we actually need multiple, frequent tests per person to get an accurate reading?

Not necessarily. This dovetails into other strategies like temperature checks at the door and masks in public places that are imperfect but useful. You need a sparse random survey, test everyone with symptoms and a bunch of epidemiologists to trace the contacts of positives.

Sorry, in the OP I interpreted "social distancing" as "isolation", and wondered why that wasn't sufficient.

Oh, these are the things that could let us leave isolation once hospitals are back below capacity and we've had time to develop strategies. South Korea is still getting new cases doing these things, but not nearly as quickly. Plus there are serological tests coming soon.
