Nobody wants war with China. China has a billion people and a formidable military. It would be more suicidal than invading Iran by an order of magnitude.

Yeah. So there maybe might be a policy of decoupling sometime in the future due to a world historical emergency that arose over two months ago.
China built mask factories within weeks of the outbreak; America, despite ample lead time, is apparently still planning to rely on those factories for what is essentially a paper product.

Sorry the other thing I should have mentioned is that in practice decoupling involves shifting more production to Mexico or Vietnam or whatever rather than necessarily onshoring it
