is it time for masks yet? i think we are being told that wearing masks is not helpful... because we don't have enough of them.

Yes. Make several, use them in public places and wash to reuse

This is inaccurate. Masks that can be washed will NOT prevent viruses from getting in. You can still contract COVID19 if you're washing a washable mask.

You can contract it through an n95 too. The chances are lower. And if you're asymptomatic it will keep the virus in, also imperfectly but far better than nothing at all.

You're equally likely to contract it wearing a mask as you are without one. Masks are designed to prevent the spread of viruses- not protect the wearer from catching one. Meanwhile people stocking up on them is taking them away from the doctors & hospitals who need them.

They're not available on the commercial market. No consumer can hoard real surgical masks right now. We have to make them ourselves, and we have enough supplies to do that.

To stop the spread of it if you are already sick.

Okay, let's game this out. You have a cold. Face protection is worn only by the sick. Do you put on a mask and single yourself out as potentially infected? Or just try not to cough?

If you answered A, how confident are you that the guy next to you will make the same choice?
