You're equally likely to contract it wearing a mask as you are without one. Masks are designed to prevent the spread of viruses- not protect the wearer from catching one. Meanwhile people stocking up on them is taking them away from the doctors & hospitals who need them.
They're not available on the commercial market. No consumer can hoard real surgical masks right now. We have to make them ourselves, and we have enough supplies to do that.

Any masks made at home will not protect you. So make them if you feel like but it wont do any good protection wise.
