People should wear masks even if they are healthy, and public places should check temperatures outside the front door. Neither is perfect. Both will help.

At the moment the supply of masks is such that we need to funnel them into the health care industry. (Sucks that it's an industry.)

That's true, but you can use any barrier between mouth/nose and the surrounding environment. I just bought some bandanas, old t-shirts or scarves work, the stupid-looking water bottle helmets probably also work pretty well
