One of these things makes life easier for an up-and-coming Midtown yup and one does not. Just sayin'.
Put it this way: I bet if we were willing to decolonize English just a little bit, there are call center workers in Mexico and India who could easily write for Atlantic, The Nation, TNR, Buzzfeed, Vice, Gothamist, any of em. And those guys don't have student loans.
We as a society could save a lot of money by cutting the salaries of high-end content creators from 200k to 25k, but draconian and frankly racist labor regs prevent us from doing so. Rents would drop and the overall quality of our journalism would remain constant.
If these guys controlled the public mind Hillary Clinton would have beaten Marco Rubio in 2016. They're ticks leeching off a dying horse and their current job is to flatter the owners, not sway the public
To me it looks more like a bunch of economic and cultural barriers to entry around a do-nothing scribe job. What do lower-wage American workers have as barriers to entry? Capital controls, unions and the border. Now that the first two are gone left wants to get rid of the third.
