A point I've seen made elsewhere is that elite white parents read the Tiger Mother book, went "If we do this, we go to prison for child abuse" and started dismantling "the systems of oppression", aka unconnected Asian success.

A point I've also seen made elsewhere is that, when those systems were national, those were the same systems that bright rural farmboys were using to get into their excellent state -level (or better!) engineering schools. It was a win for the kids of NYT journos and no one else.
