As far back as I've been posting there's been two competing left explanations of the American populace: that they're essentially in favor of communism if you describe it in a less charged way, and that whites would throw themselves into a furnace to mildly inconvenience blacks
As Iraq wore on and particularly in the wake of Katrina, all of a sudden the second explanation started winning and became The Answer. We rediscovered a zine from the 80s that laid it all out for us. Iraq, Jesus Camp, Eminem. Suddenly it all clicked into place.

I grew up in the suburbs and knew no reason to feel one way or the other about politics. What I did know was every liberal I saw representing themselves as the calm voice of Civilization in a world that didn't make such easy sense to me. By 2007 W had us all in the same boat.

Of course these smug dipshits, detesting totalizing theories of any kind, would latch onto a theory that neatly explains everything from the Columbian genocides to Iraq 2. Of course they could never acknowledge that it was a senseless calamity fought for a personal grudge.
