So this beloved Iranian general, I'm not going to pretend I had ever heard about him, but it sounds like he "operated out of" Iraq. Is that a normal thing for a general to be doing? Or was he doing this essentially at the sufferance of everyone else who wants a piece of the pie?
It sounds like he was good against ISIS, which is nice. But I can't help the feeling that Iran is maybe not fully within its rights to lead military operations in Iraq.
I don't want war with Iran but I've seen enough IMMINENT WAR WITH IRAN headlines in my lifetime to look very carefully at each crisis and think whether anyone really wants millions (on both sides) to die over this.
