      I am the kind of person who people reach out to when they're in pain. Because I'm good at emotional processing AND logical problem-solving, I tend to be a go-to for my friends who need to externally process their experiences.

      We don't play therapist out of the goodness of our hearts. If a friend comes to me with a problem, helping them makes my day better, not worse. If I don't have time I can tell them that. If I don't care because we're not actually friends, I can tell them that too.

      If I were to advertise myself as a pro bono Life Experience Expert available for consultations, a clock would start. When it reached zero I would be accused of being a predator - because what other benefit could I possibly get from playing Dear Amy in private correspondence?

      I'm not saying Dr. Fabello is a blackmailer. I'm sure the social leverage she gains by amassing gossip is never explicitly deployed in service of some desired result. But you have to be very careful who you entrust your confidence to.
