Realizing that we're raising a generation of kids whose only idea of what 'good movies' are will come from Disney or Criterion, and how many of the films I've loved through the years have been cut off by the end of video rental and decline of physical media

The zeitgeist soured on Aronofsky and Shyamalan but even their misfires, people saw. A movie like The Happening would bomb at the box office and slaughter on a home video release through word of mouth. And The Happening is actually a lot of fun. But how would you find out now?

It feels like the most 'authoritative' sources people have for some idea of The Cinema would tell them the greatest movies ever made are 8 1/2, Breathless, Ikiru... Do you think this will encourage engagement with the arts? Or will it just make people feel stupid?

It's not that the mission is bunk but people need to actually enjoy watching films before you ask them to sit through Bicycle Thieves
