One of the defining features of fundamentalism is an inability to process any information, observations, or entertainment - even for a moment - through any viewpoint other than the approved one. All data is immediately interpreted ideologically or used to support the ideology.

If you spend any time among really devout religious fundamentalists, you begin to notice this. That piece of pop culture? Well it tells us something about Jesus. This weather event? You better believe it's Jesus. That dropped phone call? Jesus.

Now compare the obsessive need of the religious fundamentalist to interpret all of life constantly as ideological affirmation - to the point where it is habit and one is unable to stop doing it - to what the radical liberal does. That's an intersectionality. That's a capitalism.

There is no difference, I claim, in how the ideologies work. Just as one can be a religious fundamentalist one can be a left-liberal fundamentalist. The pathologies work themselves out in the same ways.

I've been thinking about this with cults in general, and the stuff I learned from reading about their tactics ("lovebombing" etc)

And weirdly all that stuff seems to have completely disappeared from the public discourse
