Not really, no. Again, I'm interested in them primarily as escapist entertainment (before you flip this, do you really want to escape to MK island or the Tenenbaum house?) but I understand Peter Parker's life a lot better than Mr. Fox's weird loveless family.

There are a lot of working stiffs and losers in the MCU, way more than weapons magnates like Tony Stark, and they're written by the most talented people in LA because nobody else is fucking paying anymore except for Netflix and *suppresses vomit* Sony

It's not that they don't have value, it's that there is no longer room for anything else but billion $ franchises. Even the last 2 decades of remakes is in line with that, just looking for low risk cash in on something that was once successful. Let's not reinvent the wheel here.

It's hard for me to not be resentful of that. When I moved to Seattle it was because they had like 10 indie theaters that ran revivals as well as new small screen stuff. Landmark Corp sold em off because they weren't profitable enough.

So SIFF saves a few of them but what does SIFF do? Runs comic book movies to ensure that they continue to make tidy profits so they can honor the works of Edward Norton at the festival. Maybe next year they'll get Julia fucking Roberts. Again, low risk, high draw, known quantity.

It's an absolute dreadful state where these people aren't just doing a few fun ones the whole family will enjoy, it's that's all they do and they're draining the brains of their writers and ruining any credibility their name has.

Look at the state of Sundance and the big splash from this past year was CHILD MOLESTER THE MOVIE THE LIFE AND TIMES OF MICHAEL JACKSON. They're so trapped in a sensationalist world they can't smell their own farts.

How daring that the riskiest thing you do is to verbally create images for people in graphic details of a child's rape. I'm sure some marketing dickhead had the click based research to tell them how big this was going to be. People love molestation stories! It's hot, baby!
