I don't fundamentally disagree with the 'fast food' or 'theme park' characterizations Scorsese and Coppola read onto the Marvel films but I do flinch at the high art old guard looking down its nose at audiences too stupid to know better.
There are a lot of working stiffs and losers in the MCU, way more than weapons magnates like Tony Stark, and they're written by the most talented people in LA because nobody else is fucking paying anymore except for Netflix and *suppresses vomit* Sony

It's not that they don't have value, it's that there is no longer room for anything else but billion $ franchises. Even the last 2 decades of remakes is in line with that, just looking for low risk cash in on something that was once successful. Let's not reinvent the wheel here.

It's hard for me to not be resentful of that. When I moved to Seattle it was because they had like 10 indie theaters that ran revivals as well as new small screen stuff. Landmark Corp sold em off because they weren't profitable enough.
