My friends in Seattle are panicking about reversals to anti-discrimination protections and I nearly got socked at a bar when I said that ENDA and marriage were the worst things that ever happened to the gays.

These are things I used to talk to my elders about in my Santa Cruz days. Many of whom were in the county democratic machine but they acknowledged the fear of having our community swallowed and turned into a tool for the bosses. It wasn't far fetched.

Now days if you say something like ENDA de-fanged the queers because they are no longer force to live outside the bounds of a racist, sexist, colonizing machine people look at you like your nuts. With marriage and ENDA the community was no longer a locus of struggle any longer.

I get how it sucks to lose that liberationist wedge but gay marriage is also one less anti-discrimination policy to bludgeon the left with ("why x when we don't even have y yet")
