I think there's a kind of... Existential issue? Of commodification, competition and liability that predates and is reflected in the rise of dating apps. Spending a night alone in a room with another person outside the bounds of a transaction feels risky for both parties.
(Would be interested to see the male number reduced by the number of contractual encounters and, apologies for crudeness, encounters involving two Y chromosomes)
