the answer is probably in the interplay between porn, computer games, and dating apps -- which is to say that consumer capitalism will someday provide the substitute gratifications (sexbots, VR porn) for what the social matrix their products interfere with no longer provide

I think there's a kind of... Existential issue? Of commodification, competition and liability that predates and is reflected in the rise of dating apps. Spending a night alone in a room with another person outside the bounds of a transaction feels risky for both parties.
