good bus systems never get the credit they deservehttps://twitter.com/TransitCenter/status/1181231974737952768 …

Yeah. The bus system here is so insanely slow and dingy but there are cities in Germany where the bus is actually a convenient way to travel and guess what: it's substantially less stigmatized and feels much safer. Meanwhile small shitty LR is just as bad as slow busses.

anyone who builds a LR system at grade downtown or runs it primarily on highway or old freight ROWs instead to built up areas should be shot

Despite complaints Seattle buses are generally really good and I seriously think locals don't know how good they have it. What's almost universally awful in the US is intercity buses

For intercity I feel like trains make more sense anyway. Too bad about US commuter rail lol! Bernie 2020 everyone

it does depend on geography and ridership but yeah. like we have a decent suburban bus network but riding a bus to e.g. the olympic peninsula is a one-bus-a-day thing which virtually nobody uses except people going to the airport from there

one of my favorite bad commuter systems is Philadelphia, which was designed to be run like a German system with through-routed trains and multiple downtown stations which could be used as a quasi-metro but nope, they just terminate all the routes downtown

When your rail layout look like the bootyhole drawing from slaughterhouse five

I had the pleasure of taking the London metro once and I can't speak to the layout but there's two really charming things about it: it's unbelievably fucking expensive and you need your transfer in hand to exit. More cities should use their transit to play mind games
