You can't build a revolution around demands for more poverty. You can plot a coup, at best, and not a popular one. Growth per se is not the same thing as the growth imperative.

You can't extricate austerity from degrowth. The people who have the power to implement it aren't going to be the ones sacrificing, and currently that's capital and nobody else. Imagine how nice life would be if we all had AC, fridges, net-connected computers, free education, effective mass transit and we worked fewer hours. Would take a significant amount of extraction to get there, but it would be a better world, and it's one that capital can't make.
