I look at people supporting Warren, and they're not pulling any punches—they've burned the boats because they know exactly what's at stake; Sanders threatens their place in "the meritocracy." Why is it too much to expect the same conviction from ostensible Sanders supporters?

Of course, taking a closer look at the "supporters" whinging over criticisms and you see their class interests. These members of the leadership and media classes were only ever reluctant backers. With Warren there won't be that strife in their personal and professional lives.

That's why they try so hard to reassure us that Sanders and Warren are the same. They have nothing to lose in the tradeoff and everything to gain.

What do we do about these class double-crossers? Coddle them for every kind word? Remove them from consideration completely and just ignore them? Moral appeals seem to only disgust and anger them. "Isn't Warren concession enough!?"

A phrase I keep thinking of, maybe from 2016, "Bernie is the compromise candidate."
