Adolph Reed has sketched an outline I think, going back to the end of the CRM, but it's always a short bit in a longer polemic. Nietzsche's Genealogy of Morals, like a lot of his writing, is bizarrely on the nose for how long ago it was written.

yeah, there's a lot of material out there, but i don't think i've seen anything that zeros in on the most recent development of the trend with a level of detail -- specific people, institutions, events, dates -- and their connection to prior development comprehensively

Yeah. In the internet era it seems like there were proto-cults on LJ, there was Shakesville, and a small embattled contingent on Something Awful all well before 2010. It's hard to discern emergence from contagion, but no question Twitter was captured during gamergate.
