In their heart of hearts they think reform = reformism = if not outright fascism, then defeat of the left. They do not trust the working class to fight for its own interests if it is constituted as a class. And after all, the degen first world WC has no idea how good it has it.

In fact my theory is that any protectionism at all, no matter how limited, is immediately fascism because it excludes non-citizens and links the WC to the nation state. That's why the blow up over Tucker - they think his policies could help people, and they don't want that.
