I'm convinced that the bullying I grew up with in the early 00s was different in kind and volume than what my parents grew up with, or maybe even what was happening ten years prior. One point in favor: it grew up with me, and the PTSD response I developed has continued to serve.
Maybe things were always like this, and I'm just being dramatic. But the ways I saw children just absolutely destroy one another was clearly alarming even to teachers. It was never, ever corrective, it was sustained and targeted. There were torturers, accomplices, and victims.
