I think about the preventable medical errors death stat a lot but doctors as an institution are more worshipped than cops

this is my grey area with medicare for all. It’s not that I think people shouldn’t have healthcare but doctors are evil (simplification). theres clearly deep issues with practice and ethics running deep and turning them into semi(?)official agents of the state squicks me out

You have to really rigidly police evidence based practices for one thing. You can end up with "alternative" medicine used as a cost-cutting first line measure for anything that isn't life threatening like what the Germans do

Yeah the German system allows for GPs to prescribe like, acupuncture, and they have a separate field of "healing practicioners." Their OTC laws are super restrictive too, so pharmacists will point you to, essentially, sugar pills.

To be fair, the same thing *might* happen to a tourist looking for decongestants in the US, because the FDA refuses to crack down on sales of phenylephrine for that use. But I bet most would just recommend the one behind the counter that works
