Anyone else find it weird that Tucker Carlson has been a host on Fox for ten years and no one gave a fuck about him until last year when he started advocating economic views outside of the neoliberal consensus and then suddenly he's the paradigm expression of white nationalism?

I suppose everyone recognizes that the actually-existing Democratic party doesn't have an answer to his economic rhetoric and for some the answer is to try to put the genie back in the bottle rather than embracing a Sanders-style message

Not just the democratic party. Huge swaths of the ostensible left have no answer.

Many leftists want open borders and global wage parity because that's the only moral future they can imagine. It bothers them when rightists point out that this makes the working class poorer overall, because they were hoping nobody would notice.

I agree to the extent that open borders is an incoherent position driven by moral values, but by the same token, it’s not ipso facto true that more immigration wd be bad for normal ppl in the economy — most economists (imperfect measure, I know) find the opposite

econ sucks and I certainly don't consider it a "science," but outside of predictive modeling and other suspect uses like that, it tries its best to be an empirical measure, which is superior to just arguing "I think such and such" certainly agree it has little room for QoL

just seems the person replied to was doing the flip of what they were complaining about: they're wrong because they're moralizing (they are), I'm right because I'm not (doesn't follow). I can reply that immigrants boost production and demand, and then we need numbers etc
