I mean, they kind of didn't, in the sense that the whole thing was really "about" identity politics and idpol was the big winner, effortlessly steamrolling any person with the judgment to realize the whole thing was tabloid drama.
But if you let the argument play out unchallenged - the way virtually everyone did - you only end up on the side of the Bay Area tech press/"game" dev scene if you share their disdain for their customers.
