      people like @goatstein have said this before, i'll say it again: post-9/11 nationalistic hysteria was worse than Trumpism for many reasons, but one reason is that establishment liberals were on board with it. like, imagine if the NYT fully supported Trump's Muslim ban.

      Thinking about late Bush era had me reconsidering the Russia thing. Back in 07 leftists and liberals had the same priority, the end of the Iraq war, and made substantially the same points on that. You couldn't tell them apart by issue, which is one reason we got Obama.
