No surprise that people love this, but of course none of the people he's talking about have ever courted a "cool" aesthetic. It's a lazy attempt to imply that anyone who substantive disagreements with woke politics is just trying to act cool.https://twitter.com/shaun_jen/status/1147538341593780225 …

The obvious denotation of "dirtbag left" is not "cool", but rather losers and malcontents. It's not cool to be a dirtbag, and no one ever claimed it was. It's intended the opposite, a deliberate rejection of the trendy, hip elitism that has come to characterize left-wing culture.

I've seen people sneering at those who are upset about abortion bans or the inhuman treatment of immigrants at the border. It's a general sense, like being unironically "woke" is lame or performative.

And this doesnt have anything to do with "looking cool" or whatever but there is an odd preference for prioritizing optics ("what will the normies think?") that comes up surrounding certain issues. Just seems suspicious at times.

This is the biggest issue with the new round of dirtbags, no love for the losers. It may actually be a fatal flaw, but they're still closer than anyone else to having real politics.

Until like three months ago I thought the 'polite society' ban on anime was unique to the SA of a decade ago. For example. And it turns out the working class really hates Marvel movies.
