the cool thing about re-watching GoT is seeing how well it started and how the episode after the red wedding it immediately started a downward trend that, incredibly, continues to this day.

It's because the entire series was written around the RW, the books do the same thing. I thought the last season was alright just because it no longer felt like they were putting off telling the story
