Geneva is launching today! https://producthunt.com/posts/geneva-1 It’s an awesome product for communities and groups. Very proud of this team and the hard work they put in over the last two years, and proud to be an investor!
Hi everyone -- we released a blog post yesterday that is causing some concern and confusion. i'm so sorry. that was bad communication. i'm doing an AMA at 12:45 PT with our exec team and product team to clear up the confusion:
Reed Hastings, CEO of Netflix, couldn’t find any DVDs when he conceived of the idea for an online movie rental service, so he mailed a CD as his first test. It arrived safely in two days and cost 32 cents.
If you want some badass illustrators to turn your tweet into a custom image like the one below, tweet something you’re grateful for with #PatreonThankathon.
Today is Patreon’s Thankathon. We hired a team of illustrators who will illustrate random tweets of gratitude with #PatreonThankathon. I’ll go first: today I’m grateful for the millions of creators who had the guts to choose their own path, as wild as it may be!
Three things:
1) Creators have earned over $2B on Patreon to date from over 6M patrons!
2) Creators are about to be earning $1B per year on Patreon (!!!!).
3) We just raised $90M! Coming up: international, patron experience, discovery

Thank you @jackconte and @samyamiam for inviting me to join the @Patreon board! I could not be more excited for the adventures to come. https://linkedin.com/pulse/supporting-artists-creators-makers-patreon-anne-raimondi/…
Doing an AMA on sales tax with creators RIGHT NOW for the next couple hours if you have any questions. I'm here https://patreoncommunity.com/t/sales-tax-ama-with-jack-conte/7927… with the patreon tax, finance, and community teams hanging out in a zoom answering any incoming questions!
I will be responding to questions in the comments section of that video, and so will our finance and tax teams, so please let me know if you have any questions. OK that's the update. More info, details, and AMAs coming soon.
If you have any questions in the meantime, check out my video with all the details you need to know: https://youtube.com/watch?v=CvOtULx_cK0… . The top comment is an index that will allow you to skip around to the topic that you have questions about.
I will be doing some AMAs over the next few weeks with our finance and tax teams to help creators figure all this out and answer any questions. AMA link here:
If you don't want to lean in and use the tool, don't worry, we are also building a fully automated solution, so you don't have to do anything. You could literally stop reading this thread right now, and we'll take care of the whole thing on your behalf.
We are building you a tool that will allow you to reduce the sales tax burden on your patrons. It will basically help you ensure that your patrons aren't having to pay a penny more than they are legally obligated to pay. Details here:
Other companies are charging sales tax as well, so Patreon is not the only one going through changes like this -- but we are doing this a bit differently. We are giving you more control over your sales tax settings. Here's what I mean by that:
This link: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/360043054911… has all the details you will need to communicate with patrons and tell them about the changes. If you don't want to tell them, no worries, we will be emailing them, too.
Communication with your patrons is super important. We will notify affected patrons June 1st, but I highly recommend that all creators give their patrons a heads up first (I think they would appreciate hearing from you directly).
We are being mandated by law to start charging sales tax on patron pledges on Patreon, depending on the location of the patron. It will affect about 30% of patrons in aggregate across the site. We won't start doing this until July 1st, but we wanted to tell you ahead of time.
If you are a creator whose shows / events have been cancelled, and you are having a tough time, patreon has just launched a grant called "What the Fund," and you can apply here: https://events.patreon.com/weirdstreamathon… . We're also going live at that link in 30 mins to do a streamathon fundraiser
If you'd like to contribute to the fund, please come to our stream today or go straight here to contribute: https://events.patreon.com/weirdstreamathon… The livestream is going to be awesome -- AMAZING creators and leaders joining us to talk about what all of this means for creativity.
will be assembling and leading a creator advisory board that will help us distribute the funds to creators who need them most. If you've had tours or shows cancelled and you need help, you can apply to receive the funds here:
We just launched "What the Fund," a fund to support creators whose live events have been cancelled. Patreon kicked in the first $10k and we're doing a livestream fundraiser starting at 4pm PST today to raise more. Join the stream, apply for the funds:
OK wrapping up the AMA about patreon capital here: https://reddit.com/r/AMA/comments/f7i3im/patreon_capital_ama/…? i'm going to take off in 5 minutes, but if you have more questions, keep em coming. we'll answer a few more over the course of the week. thanks to everyone who joined!
