But if I want my reply to be public, how can it be done? Has @Twitter removed the option? (Used to put a dot before the username)

We haven't

But with this new layout (on Android) I can't put a dot before the username, so how do I make a reply public on my timeline?
-
Does that mean all replies will be visible in followers' streams just like regular tweets?
-
No. The exact opposite. But I don't see an option of making a reply public other than to retweet yourself
-
Seems to be the official *solution*. I can't even.https://twitter.com/Support/status/847480795518218241 …

Yet another attempt by you/twitter to protect journalists, politicians and other powerful/influential people from being called out publicly.

Hey Jack, allowing people to add up to 50 handles in a thread is no good. I've been getting bombarded with spammy tweets all day.
