To clarify: I was speaking broadly about our range of enforcement actions, when asked why we timeout functionality on Twitter. I don’t assume everyone will change their actions. Enforcement gets tougher with further reported violations.https://twitter.com/cwarzel/status/1029780813787754496 …

I’d argue that this line of thinking from @jack is part of the problem. Jones and others are not normal users. Jones has been doing this for 20+ years (and it’s been very lucrative!). A suspension is not going to make him rethink his behaviors pic.twitter.com/jAaZFItjdt

We have some evidence to show this does work. It won’t in every case. And we need to constantly evolve our enforcement actions. There will never be a perfect endpoint.

“Evolving” is the problem, @jack. If you had a fixed set of rules and enforcement policies, you wouldn’t be in this situation. You have consistently let Jones slide for clear violations while evolving the rules to avoid having to discipline him.

By allowing his violations to go unchecked, you have eroded your rules altogether so know one knows what to follow. Your latest “timeout” is because of the same type of rhetoric that he’s used on your platform for years. Where are the “timeouts” for those?

Twitter found Jones to have broken the rules eight times in the past week, the last one directly inciting violence. Would be great to have some clarity around how many / what scale of violations would trigger a ban

My fear is once someone (again) uses violence against one of Jones's targets, there will be more futzing over rules from Jack.

I referred to Ann Coul-ter as a b——h in response to something hateful she said- didn’t even write the word entirely and I got a full ban for 5 days literally MINUTES after sending. But that Jones guy gets personal protection from the boss himself. Seems like tacit approval to me.

Youre right. It’s not that big of a stretch to see them as peas in a pod especially with these pi$$poor attempts at defending twitter’s decisions. It’s exasperating to watch this play out. It will not end well.
