One of the most important constituencies we serve is our journalist population. Has been since day 1. We don’t mean to shift the work here. We must build tools to help (and need to work together to do that). We can’t be a useful service without the integrity journalists bring.https://twitter.com/jack/status/1026984249960755200 …

I’m sorry Jack, but you’re trying to move the story on and it’s still not okay. I love Twitter and have defended it relentlessly, but your Alex Jones policy remains wrong and you need to do deal with it.
-
Your policy indicates that a group could do absolutely appalling things off Twitter and you’d never ban them as long as they kept narrowly within Twitter’s rules, even when it’s absolutely clear that they regularly engage in hate speech and harassment. This is simply wrong.
-
I have to be honest this feels like a retrograde policy step - like things have gone backwards. Putting the responsibility on journalists to fight against lies that hurt the Sandy Hook parents is something I would have expected years ago. It’s not where I thought you were today.
-
Great and scalable ideas is not what we need right now, what we need is the ability to report some people for sustained hate speech or harassment off Twitter that *with a high burden of proof* can result in expulsion.
-
So censor people that you don't agree with? I guess it's time to starting filing reports on Tom Coates for next wave of Twitter bans!
-
"You dont agree with" is not the same as "led a multi year harassment campaign against the families of Sandy Hook victims". Grow up with this false equivalency garbage and stick to the actual problem. Your boy Jones is doing wrong whether or not we agree with him
-
Personally I think Jones is nuts and in many cases very wrong. But I'm not afraid of people like Alex Jones. I believe we should allow people like him to speak their minds. Twitter should not get into the censorship game - it's a nasty slippery slope.
-
Its really not a slope at all. Twitter has had no problem with suspending or banning non famous people for doing things like calling the Duke of Edinburgh old, or describing a fictional character's mistreatment. Jones has done far worse and nothing, because he makes ad money.

Playing along with your view of twitter as open to all, even Nazis and purveyors of misinformation - one option you could consider is creating an open and transparent twitter “weather map” to publicly show in real time how the spread of networked misinformation is happening
-
A tool that builds in natural language analysis, follower/RT/like network graphs, and account geography to show influence campaigns would be a helpful tool for researchers and journalists who want to spot networked influence campaigns on your platform
-
Your network is unhealthy, and if you won’t staunch the harmful speech, at least you can pay to build and share the robust tools that can show how the speech spreads

You think? It's really interesting how you tech boys keep messing stuff up and then expect journalists and Wikipedia to set things straight again. You outsource your accountability and you're willing to pay nothing at all. It's pathetic, really.
Thanks. Twitter will use this to make your timeline better. UndoUndo

I admit I'm just spit-balling here, but wouldn't banning people like Jones provide an economic incentive to *not* use your application to spread hate speech, threats, and harassment? How is this hard?

No one has been suggesting Algorithms. You need to make a judgement call.

Yes exactly and he doesn't have the balls. It's tragic.

"we need to do better" is jack's version of "thoughts & prayers".

Twitter supporting hate speech (and punishing those who are at the receiving end of hate speech), is not explainable by anything other than you agreeing with it, Jack. Your statement regarding Jones ignores reality.pic.twitter.com/tLgYxu1eaJ
