Truth is we’ve been terrible at explaining our decisions in the past. We’re fixing that. We’re going to hold Jones to the same standard we hold to every account, not taking one-off actions to make us feel good in the short term, and adding fuel to new conspiracy theories.

If we succumb and simply react to outside pressure, rather than straightforward principles we enforce (and evolve) impartially regardless of political viewpoints, we become a service that’s constructed by our personal views that can swing in any direction. That’s not us.

Accounts like Jones' can often sensationalize issues and spread unsubstantiated rumors, so it’s critical journalists document, validate, and refute such information directly so people can form their own opinions. This is what serves the public conversation best.

I have been thinking about this response from
@jack throughout today. I enjoy Twitter a lot. I curate, mute and follow people and things I’m interested in. I’ve made *human* friends from this place. I get information about records & gigs, etc, etc… (1/14)https://twitter.com/jack/status/1026984242893357056 … -
I’ve also been lucky to avoid any direct flare-ups with any Twitter troll/asshole. I’ve done that by generally being non-contentious on here, unless you’re going to have a go at Pink Floyd’s The Final Cut and then I’ll attack. And yet
@jack’s response is NOT GOOD ENOUGH… (2/14) -
There’s a thing going down these days which in my mind I call “The New Cowardice”. It’s pretty straightforward really. When you see a decision or a behaviour that strikes you as odd or off-colour, ask yourself: “Could this be cowardice?” cc
@jack (3/14) -
So let’s take
@jack’s decision not to silence the voices of hate on this forum - yes! He’s being a coward. Afraid of shareholders, afraid of user numbers, afraid of retribution. No courage whatsoever. This must be the world he wants to live in. (4/14) -
If someone came to my place of work & started saying the things that are causing upset on Twitter, I WOULD SHOW THEM THE DOOR. Spare me “principles” Mr MultiMillionaireTechMan, you don’t have the courage to flick the switch here & make Twitter better(5/14)https://twitter.com/jack/status/1026984247750316033 …
-
“The New Cowardice” is everywhere. The king is someone I try to avoid mentioning on here. See can you guess who it is? Afraid of knowledge, afraid of science, afraid of women, afraid of truth, afraid of his limitations, afraid of Merkel. Yes! That guy. (6/14)
-
And this is disingenuous hogwash too. It’s not my job to improve Twitter,
@jack, if you can’t tell right from wrong you shouldn’t leave the house. You could put a filter on tomorrow to block hate speech and bots, but…cowardice… (7/14)https://twitter.com/jack/status/1027209149153607681 … -
I mean, over 400 hours of video goes up on YouTube every minute. Try including a bit of copyrighted music and watch it get flagged and removed. So Twitter can filter some typed words in tweets and bios. It’s not hard,
@jack, so just tell the truth: you don’t want to do it. (8/14) - 7 more replies

Christianity is considered a 'hate group' by the Left, and the Bible ‘hate speech.’ This Leftist fascism must be reigned in before they destroy the United States.
-
When *some* Christians use their religion and their bible to hate on other groups of people, to limit their freedoms, then yes they’re a hate group. The “Leftist” can usually tell the difference between those & other Christians who actually understand what their religion is about

There’s a huge difference bt different point of view in political viewpoint & complete lies. One is protected the other is prosecutable. Especially when it incites violence. Pro-trump anti-trump are different views Pizzagate lies result in a man w/ a gun at a pizza parlor
-
Strictly speaking, lies are not prosecutable unless they incite violence, libel someone, violate hate speech laws, etc.
-
i'm assuming you stopped reading after the word 'prosecutable'? you should try to read further.
-
No. But your point is taken. I was taking exception to the word “especially”, but in the context of my limited understanding of US freedom of speech laws. I’ve further educated myself though with the result that I’ve lost a great deal of respect for the SCOTUS.
