As teams drop out of the World Cup your reasons for supporting a side start to get more tenuous: -I once had a partner from there -I once went on holiday there -Their cuisine is good -Their flag is my favourite colour -Same first letter as my name -They're not Portugal

Looking forward to discussing Carl Schmitt with a bunch of emotional men. I mean, what could possibly go wrong?

While everyone watches futbol, I have to read some Carl Schmitt. The experiences might turn out to be remarkably similar. Rules, exceptions, offside, diactatorship, bad luck, theology...

People who write about war and violence: The ’ At War blog is back. And they accept submissions from outsiders (send a 200-word email pitch to AtWar@nytimes.com). Looks like a great opportunity to present our research findings to a large audience.
