The best part about writing is when people tell me they were inspired to read further into the topic and learn new stuff. I only wish they would let me know about the interesting things they find, so I could also learn something new out of it 🙂

  2. (199) A (continuous) wavelet transform is given by the overlap integral of the signal s with the kernel (wavelet) w, where the kernel is both shifted and stretched, allowing to extract information at different scales.

Dear Twitter hive mind: any suggestions for high quality Youtube channels about bio-chem-med IN POLISH (for a 14y/o kid)? Thanks 🙂

A honorable mention to , who has just above the 2k followers cut, but whom you should definitively follow 🙂

A thread with a list of people who have few followers (I put an arbitrary cut at 2k) but regularly post interesting stuff about science (mostly math and physics, as I am biased toward these disciplines 😉) In strictly random order. (1/n)

The lineup of speakers is amazing (not totally sure what I am doing among them 😉), so it is highly recommended if you want to learn about wave scattering and complex media!

The skills you need to pass exams and the skills you need to do research are (very) different. So exam grades are a very poor predictor of how good you can be at doing science. (I was a B student at best)

When I teach I try my best to make connections with real life. But I am twice the age of my students, so what to me is common knowledge, often for them is not. e.g. I recently found out that, although most of my students went to concerts, they had no idea what an equalizer is 🤷‍♂️

    (198) Aliasing: If your sampling is not fine enough, the signal you recover can have some very weird shape. Ironically this animation suffer from aliasing, so some dots seem to be moving backwards 🤷‍♂️

In a recent video talked (among other things) about how in 2E Dark Sun you rolled 5D4 for your stats instead of 3D6 in order to create a character that had a chance to survive. If you were wondering how much better 5D4 is compared with 3D6, this is how much:

Inspired to animate by This is the coherent light intensity downstream of circular hole as the diameter increases. The cool part, as we learnt from Fresnel, is how the on-axis intensity oscillates between 0 and 4 times the incident intensity, see
