"The M8 was the single most damaging project inflicted on the fabric of Glasgow. Not only did it destroy sections of the city, sever communities, and vastly increase pollution, it failed to tackle traffic congestion that advocates of urban road-building claimed it would resolve.”

Zac Goldsmith, what a story. Son of humble billionaire, at 23 made editor of a magazine (owned by his uncle), gets Tory nom for leafy London seat at 32, loses the seat twice in 3 years, (also losing London mayoral race). Elevated to the House of Lords. Truly, the British dream.

The billionaires are walking off with everything which isn't nailed down, and quite a lot that is. And they're changing national life to suit themselves. Apart from anything else, this reflects a total failure of anti-trust laws.

The UK has a vast, wide, deep and pervasive problem with Islamophobia. It is structural and casual, embedded so deeply into our society it would take decades to dig out. And all the signs are that we're not even planning on trying.

I've written up some thoughts on what a left tech policy might look like. How can we apply the basic principles of decommodification and democratization to our actually existing digital sphere?

Clearly, this election is of unusual importance. But there will be no say for the 92,000 thousand people currently serving time in UK prisons. I wrote this for The Guardian about prisoner disenfranchisement.

Grenfell was mass murder. British establishment politics is so morally disfigured that the fact we've passed through press blaming the firefighters onto politicians blaming the victims is hardly a surprise: "the power to make the innocent guilty and to make the guilty innocent".
