Homicides are the most serious cases we handle with the greatest harm to victims. In 2020, our homicide team secured 3 indictments - one of which I personally presented to the grand jury. (By comparison in 2019 the entire office didn't secure any grand jury indictments.)
This is nothing to crow about. A grand jury is a simple procedural device like a preliminary hearing. Nothing special. Also, there are tactical reasons for not going by grand jury. You don’t preserve testimony because witnesses are not cross examined. Stupid tactic.

I agree. Especially when compared to national averages.
