Whoever first anglo-phoneticised Korean names/words did such a crap job. Ex) The confusing thing even for a Korean like me is that I wld pronounce Yeun as 은. In SY’s case, the more common spelling wld be Yeon, also problematic for English pronunciation.

Especially when we HAVE most of the phonemes necessary! There will always be small inflection stuff that English can't cope with but some of our mistakes just seem outright lazy in retrospect.

+1 for every person with an Asian name who has just said, "f*** it, I'm exhausted from correcting people, just say my name however, and I'll deal"

Probably better to just ask the person how to pronounce a name you're unfamiliar with, rather than try to say it and assume you got it right.

I will admit, I also mispronounced it in my head, but then again I've only ever read his name and never heard it pronounced? At least now I know - and will remember - that Yeun rhymes with fun!
