Surely at this point in the pandemic we’re best off just remaining in national lockdown until vaccines have rolled out? I can’t be the only one thinking that, right?

No, but it's not that simple, many things have to be considered, look at the summer we were mostly fine with limited cases for months despite no lock down. It's a balance that the country hasn't discovered how to achieve yet, slow reactions and no track and trace don't help

I think the summer was largely aided by families able to see one another outdoors - winter doesn’t provide that same benefit unfortunately. We also didn’t have this highly contagious variant back then either. Why wait when the trajectory is far worse than ever?

May not be wrong, but seeing as under 50's are likely waiting 'till 2022 for their shot, that'd be one literal HELL of year

Depends on how effective the rollout process becomes I suppose. Online calculators I’ve used estimate me (a 25 YO with no underlying conditions) to get mine in a July-September window. Time will tell!

You predicted it! To be fair it was the only way, plus Scotland made the first move and we had to respond in kind.

What irks me is how this has been a sentiment shared by so many for so long and yet our leaders take an age to reach the same decision. They phrase it as “working hard” but really they’re just sat waiting and hoping as long as possible before they have no choice.
