Honestly, what does restricting it from 5 days to 1 day for Christmas bubbles actually solve? We’re supposed to see the same people within that period anyway, so surely it doesn’t matter, right?

I saw this coming but it still infuriates me. They didn’t ever care about saving Christmas for families - they’ve closed it down a week before the big day when most people have already done their shopping. This is about the same thing it always has been - the economy.

This is not our fault, either. The shift in blame towards the general public or a sudden “variant which spreads faster” is ludicrous. Funny how the south has been spreading faster after being placed in tier 2 after a 4 week lockdown than anywhere else in the country in tier 3...

I’m sick of our government. I’m sick of Boris making broad statements and having to turn back. Pubs took the blame and got closer, yet schools are open...shops are open. You wonder why this shit won’t stop rising? Because we don’t matter as long as cash keeps flowing.

I caught covid despite doing everything right. I wore masks. I kept my distance. I stayed indoors. I worked from home. Now you’re telling us I get one day with my parents? Respectfully, fuck you.

When all of this is over and the hugs are flowing - just remember those we’ve lost because of our incompetent leaders and how they let us take the blame. Remember that next time the elections roll around. Just...don’t ever forget this. I know I won’t.

I'm going to add a statement here. Its not meant as absolution, or as support for our government. I don't think they've been on the ball for this whole pandemic. I'm heartbroken as we won't be seeing any family this Christmas. Be glad you're getting a day... BUT...

... The public needs to shoulder its side of the blame here. People as a whole aren't following the rules. More often than not people aren't keeping distance, and don't even get me started on the nonsense I've seen RE: masks. ...

... I've seen more a few people tonight saying this has nothing to do with the public, its all the government's fault, and I can't agree. People like you and I, Jake, are doing our part. The people as a whole aren't. And it really hurts.

There are 100% idiots out there. But with a response as confusing and as drawn out as ours, I can't blame the public for being fatigued and giving up.
