How is it? I read a review today that said it's much closer to pokemon go than the old games because the focus is on collecting rather than battling? Put me off a bit!

So in terms of beats it's pretty similar to the original red/blue games so far. The only major differences so far are how you find Pokémon (they're visible and move about on screen so you can choose which one you go for) and the way you engage them (you don't battle wild ones).
I miss the ability to fight wild Pokémon, but not enough to say that it's affected the experience in a negative way for me. It's certainly more streamlined and less grindy, but it's a fantastic tribute to the original games with some cool nods to them! I'm loving it. :)
