tbh it does kinda make sense to me that a lot of university profs get caught up in the Free Speech Debates like......college campus activism has a certain tenor that i also disliked when i was surrounded by it all the time and that i don't find as common outside of school
my theory is that as a student in the face of an enormous & inexorable university system that knows it'll push you out and replace you in 4 years it's basically impossible Not to adopt hardline stances on things in some ways it's an artificially extreme environment
if you're a student and wanna see some really demoralizing shit go to your campus paper archives and search for any issue you want and just look at how many classes before you have done all the same things you're doing. zero cultural continuity for students but admin remembers
