just discovered the frontend teams at work have their own beautiful frontend internal docs site while the rest of us are stuck in the confluence dark ages

Confluence is where words go to die. Do you have the option of starting up your own private docs repo on GitHub? Totally make a thing of it.

we use a bot that converts md files on github to confluence and then confluence gets indexed by internal companywide search so nobody uses confluence search. it's not bad tbh but the frontend site is way nicer lol

Just wait until you realize it involves pushing a branch, going through CI, and hoping the service autodeploys to make minor docs changes. It's not good and I want to kill it

tbf my team uses docbot which also requires committing a branch although you can just use the github web editor lol if frontend doc changes are anything like site changes that sounds.......rough

http://README.md and make files are good too. The best and happiest time I had was when a leader enforced a no secret, shadow workflows policy on all work. So it wasn't even docs that helped but the fact that ALL people worked in nearly same patterns.
