idly thinking the american psyche has always run on hype, which is an approach that could actually be generative in an era of controlled information & attention distribution but pretty much fails completely in the modern attention ecosystem. idk untested thought

Hmm yeah. Maybe a few things going on - more hype cycles at once means less investment in any particular cycle - shorter hype cycles means people who would commit time are more reluctant to - just a lot of stuff going on that distracts the people who would otherwise build things

I guess your information ecosystem point really depends on the funding source too: it matters a lot more that the hype cycle not be short if your project needs a lot of public investment
