the media has lots of problems but the level of discourse here is equivalent to if you taught a roomful of babies to just yell CLICKS at each other all day

tech ppl bitching about reporters not knowing how to code and then debating long detailed explanations of how media business models work when they can’t even distinguish between bylines or sections or parent companies is too much for today lol sorry

the thing that frustrates me most is there are real problems with the media industry & media coverage of tech but all the idiots yelling abt clicks all the time have totally discredited the whole conversation

I'm really impressed with "data journalism" these days. If only there was a way for journalists to more efficiently harvest the public surplus they create.

I wish that all the analytics work of data journalism generated ongoing times series instead of a static article. For example https://www.washingtonpost.com/business/2020/05/09/one-chart-shows-how-stock-market-is-completely-decoupled-labor-market/?outputType=amp … an interesting chart that would be even more interesting a year from now. Many current ml pipelines could do this with some work.
