would add to this that when entry requirements are bent for white guys who then turn out to be great it’s evidence the entry requirements are flawed, but when it’s a black or other underrepresented candidate those flawed entry requirements are suddenly a “meritocratic bar”https://twitter.com/Thogori/status/1276207430377111552 …

in general i kinda hate the framing of "lowering the bar" the bar should be multidimensional and there's no point turning it into a blame game of who got in without qualifications or whatever but let's just all admit meritocracy is a myth
